Water softener in Hinckley, Ohio: a calm guide for private-well homes
Hinckley sits just south of Softstone’s Strongsville base, and many homes there rely on private wells. Here’s a practical look at hardness, testing, and what a free water test covers.

A well-water town next door to Strongsville
Hinckley Township sits just south of Softstone Water’s home base in Strongsville, across the county line in northern Medina County. It is known for wooded lots, larger properties, and the Hinckley Reservation, and many homes here draw their water from a private well rather than a city main.
That makes Hinckley different from the Lake Erie city-water suburbs to the north. A private well serves one property, so the water at one address can differ from the house down the road. Softstone does not assume anything from the town name alone. We confirm the source for your address first, then test the water that actually reaches your kitchen.
What Hinckley homeowners usually notice
The questions we hear are everyday ones. White scale around faucets and showerheads. Spots on glasses after the dishwasher. Soap and shampoo that take extra product to lather. Some well owners also mention orange or rust-colored staining in a toilet tank or tub, or a sulfur-like smell when hot water first runs.
Those are different clues, and they deserve different answers. Hardness comes from dissolved calcium and magnesium. Orange staining usually points toward iron. A rotten-egg smell points toward sulfur. Lumping all three into one promise that a single softener fixes everything is not how Softstone works. We describe these as comfort and upkeep observations, and we let testing guide the plan.

How testing works on a private well
A Softstone free water test usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes. We confirm the source, measure hardness at the tap, and ask what you notice in the kitchen, the shower, and the laundry. We also look at your well equipment, pressure tank, and where treatment equipment would sit.
On a well, an in-home test is a starting point, not the full picture. When it makes sense, we recommend a certified laboratory analysis so the treatment plan is based on documented results. Medina County homeowners can also find information on private well testing through the county health department. Softstone never uses dramatic demonstrations or scare stories to sell equipment.
Start with your water, not a sales tier.
A free at-the-tap test helps separate hardness, taste, odor, and installation questions before you choose equipment.
What the free test includesWhat the Softstone package includes
Softstone offers one published package: a whole-home softener, whole-home carbon filtration, and under-sink reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink, for $3,599 all-in installed. That price includes standard installation at a normal basement or utility location, system startup, a walkthrough, a starter bag of salt, and the first RO filter set. Softstone sells the system and coordinates the job, and licensed plumbers perform the installation.
On many Hinckley wells, hardness is the main whole-home concern, so the softener carries most of the load. Carbon can help with general taste and odor depending on the water, and the RO system gives the kitchen a dedicated tap for the water you drink and cook with most.

When a well needs more than the standard package
Some wells need something extra. If test results show iron staining or sulfur odor beyond what the standard equipment is meant to handle, Softstone quotes iron, sulfur, or UV treatment separately, and only after testing shows a need. That keeps the $3,599 package honest and means no one pays for equipment their water does not call for.
We also tell you before you sign if anything about your plumbing, well setup, or equipment location changes the installation. After startup we show you the controls, where the salt goes, and what normal operation sounds like. Salt delivery and filter plans are optional conveniences, never a requirement.
